I created this new site and blog during the winter break of 2017-18 but since the creation, I haven’t had much time to post or keep it updated. Now that it is summer, I “should” have some time to put new content. This post will hopefully be the first of many to come.
To start this new trend of updated material I wanted to do something random and fun…so here are 10 random (and fun) facts about me that you may or may not know.
1. Counting
I always count how many paper towels I as I pull them out of the dispenser. After I dry off my hands, I also think I use too many and that I am wasteful. I say to myself that I will do better next time…but I don’t.
2. Drive-thru
Another thing I always do is try to eat something from my drive-thru order before leaving the parking lot. I think I picked this up from having to eat quick in drum corps but also from having a busy lifestyle in grad school.
3. Searching
My favorite waste of time is spending hours on YouTube searching for new music to program or play on future concerts or any other new music that may interest me. I spiral down a rabbit hole of related videos and next thing I know it is 1 AM.
4. Workaholic
It hard to me to sit still. I always need a project to do, a piece to practice, or something else to occupy my time. I know it is probably not healthy but I always bring work to do at home. I need to find a better work life to home life balance.
5. What if
Every couple weeks or so I think about how my life would be different if I went to a different or took a different job or made other different decisions. These thoughts soon subside and turn into I wouldn’t have the wonderful life I have now with my wife, dogs, job, etc.
6. Other occupations
Speaking of what if…if I wasn’t a music educator, my dream job would be playing drum set for a touring group. But not just any touring group. I would love to play for a worship band like Hillsong or Elevation Worship. Having played in worship bands for close to 20 years there is something that I enjoy about corporate worship that makes me want to do it full-time. Either be a drummer or a foley artist.
7. Dog food
As a kid I hated the smell of dog food and would avoid the dog food aisle at the supermarket. Now that I have pups of my own, I still dislike the smell but as a provider of food for the pups I tolerate it so they can eat. Also, my pups are the BEST!
8. Blinker
I always use my blinker. If it was 2 AM and there were no cars around, I will still use my blinker. I may do this because I despise it when people don’t use theirs and I am expected to read their minds while driving.
9. Live music
I would rather buy or listen to a live performance or album over a studio recorded one. There is something real and authentic about live music that draws me to those recordings instead of fully edited music from a studio. Maybe this comes from my enjoyment to go hear live music.
10. Pickles
Last but not least random fact about me is that I hate pickles. Keep them away from me!!!
